☀️ Introducing the SHINE PV Work Packages (WPs)!
November 19, 2025
The SHINE PV project is developing alternative technological routes to #PV manufacturing for Silicon Heterojunction (#SHJ) and #TOPCon solar focused on three key steps in the back-end manufacturing: #metallization, #post-processing, and #interconnection.
Here’s how each WP contributes and the institution leading them:
#WP1 – Scalable Metallization
Development of parallel dispensing and plating as high-volume alternatives to screen printing, enabling significant Ag savings and Cu integration. Activities include optimized pastes, printing parameters, laser sintering, plating steps, and full process validation. #WPL: Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE
#WP2 – Novel Post-Processing
Optimization of Light Soaking and Edge Re-Passivation (ERP) to deliver higher efficiency and recover cutting-related losses, while ensuring module reliability and compatibility with advanced production tools. #WPL: CEA
#WP3 – Innovative Interconnection
Scale-up of shingling and TWILL technologies, supported by new materials, reliability modelling, and exploration of release encapsulants for end-of-life disassembly. #WPL: imec
#WP4 – Equipment Development and manufacturing
Design, manufacturing, and validation of TRL7 production tools for dispensing, plating, laser soaking, ERP, and advanced interconnection, bringing novel PV processes to industrial readiness. #WPL: Applied Materials Europe
#WP5 – Process Integration, demonstration and evaluation
Industry 4.0-based modelling and digitalisation to integrate and validate all SHINE PV processes in distributed pilot lines, ensuring compatibility with real manufacturing environments and confirming module reliability. #WPL: EnginSoft Italy
#WP6 – Communication, dissemination, exploitation and Life-Cycle Analysis (LCAs)
Assessment of environmental, social, and economic impacts, development of business models, IPR management, and broad dissemination of results. #WPL: TNO
#WP7 – Coordination & Management
Efficient project execution, financial management, and communication with the European Commission. #WPL: Applied Materials Europe
